This is an OR problem. Meaning we want the probability of either Events 1 OR Event 2.
In these problems, we find the probability of each event happening, and then we ADD them together.
P(hearts) = (1/4) since 1 of the 4 suits is hearts.
P(number card) = (9/13) since you have cards 2-10 (numbers) and the face cards and aces.
P(hearts OR number card) = (1/4) + (9/13); get common denominators = (13/52) + (36/52) = 49/52
So the answer is 49/52

This question follows the addition rule where you need to subtract the probability of getting a numbered heart card; P(numbered heart) = 9/13 So, 1/4 + 9/13 - 9/13 = 40/52 Hence the answer is 40/52 NOT 49/5211/03/21
