Hi Chris. With a mean of 143, a +1 standard deviation would be 179 (143+36). Also, a +2 standard deviation would be 215 (179+36). Since 215>208, we won’t obtain an exact answer like we normally get with the Bell curve.
However, we can estimate. Since 208-179=29, and 215-208=7, we can see that a ratio of 29:7 is nearly 4:1. This ratio means that we can move 4/5 of the way from +1 standard deviation to #2 standard deviation, making the standard deviation at 208 about a 1.8.
To get the answer, we add 50% (the mean) +19.1+15.0+10.9 (We get the 10.9 from 4/5(9.2+4.4). That totals 95%. This means that a number = to or greater than 208 will show up at least 95% of the time.
