x is the # of Grants, which is the $50 bill, because it bears the image of President Ulysses S. Grant

y is the # of Franklins, which is the $100 bill, because it bears the image of Ben Franklin

x+y = 28 <--- there are 28 bills altogether

50x +100y = Cash Amount

For example, you can have 10 Grants and 14 Franklins, which is 10*50 +14*100 = 500+1400 = 1900

or you can have 20 Grants and 8 Franklins, which is 20*50 + 8*100 = 1000 + 800 = 1800

So as you can see, without this information, there is more than one solution to the problem.
