Log and root fractions

Question

If log x =.4 and log y = .6, find log rootx/rooty

Answer 1

Given: Log(x) = .4 and Log(y) = .6

    = log(x^1/2) - log (y^1/2)              (  sqrt(x) = x^1/2 )

                = ½ log(x) – ½ log(y)               (power rule)

                 = ½(.4)    - 1/2.6)                     (substitution)

= .2       -    .3

                  =   - .1
