Let the consecutive odd integers be x and x+2

 

The sum is 308, so 

 

x + (x+2) = 308

2x = 306

x = 153

 

so x+2 = 155

 

The two consecutive odd integers are 153 and 155

Let n be any integer

Let 2n +1 = the first odd integer

Let 2n+3 = the next consecutive odd integer

 

Their sum = 308

Combining we get 2n+1 +2n+3 = 308

Combining like terms you get 4n +4 =308

Subtract 4 from each side to get 4n=304, n =76

 

The first odd integer = 2n+1 = 2(76) +1 = 152+1=153

The next odd integer = 2n+3 = 2(76) +3=152+3=155

 

Check by adding the two numbers you just found:  155+153= 308
