Equivalent expression

Not totally clear what you mean by equivalent expression but if you multiply the -1/2 to all of the terms in the parentheses you can get:

(-1/2*(-2x)) + (-1/2*(4y))

Which simplifies to:

(2x/x) + (-4y/2)

x - 2y
