When the length of a rectangle is divided by 3 and the width is doubled, the area of the new rectangle is the area of the orignal one multiplied by what number

Call the length L and the width W

 

The new length is (1/3)L or L/3 and the new width is 2W.  Multiply these together to get the new area.  You get 2WL/3or (2/3)LW. 

 

So the answer is 2/3
