For some fixed number constant C, the simplest line is y=c or x=c. The former is a horizontal line. the latter is a vertical line
The simplest parabola would probably be y = x^2
For daily applications, there are many.
One example:
the path of any object thrown up in the air, as it rises and falls, is a parabola
the price of a product from one day to the next, rises or falls per a linear function.
blood pressure, over a 15 second period, can be modeled with a linear function.
