Hello Sylvia.  If your equation actually says x²  + 6x  + 8, then you can think about the factors (the numbers your multiply together) of 8 that will add up to make 6.  7 and -1 would add to six, but they do not make a product of 8.  4 and 2 would add to six, and their product is also 8,so that would be your choice!
