    Factors are building blocks of the Term , and they are separated by multiplication:

   

     Factoring an expression means to pull out the GCF( greatest common factor of terms that are building   

      blocks of the expressions and they are separated by +, - sign.

 

       18 b² + 12 b          / an expression with 2 terms

 

        6 . 3 b² + 6 . 2 b /  here we see that 2 terms have 6b as common factor.

 

        6b( b + 2)   / pulled out the GCF open parenthesis divide each term by GCf and write down the

                           quotient inside the parenthesis.

 

           Factoring is opposite of distribution law

 

          6b( b + 2 ) = 6b² + 12b   / we carry the distribution law we come up with original form.

first look for the biggest number the coefficients can divide in to (18 and 12). We see that it's 6. So, we factor out 6. Now, let's look at the variable b. We look for the b with the smallest exponent, in this case b¹ which is equivalent to just b. We factor out b.

 

 

6b(3b + 2).

 

expand the above: (6b)(3b) + (6b)(2)= 18b² + 12b. So, solution is 6b(3b + 2).
