If you let “x” represent the amount of 10% solution that he should use, the underlying equation here becomes
0.50(60) + 0.10x = 0.25(60 + x)
From there then you can solve for the value of “x” algebraically!
30 + 0.10x = 15 + 0.25x
15 = 0.15x
x = 15/0.15 = 100
meaning that the nurse needs to use 100 cc of the 10% solution
