The standard form for imaginary numbers is a + bi.
So this problem is a matter of simplifying and combining like terms.
(-1 + i) - (-2 - i) = -1 + i - (-2) - (-i) = -1 + i + 2 + i
And I'll let you do the rest. Do you see what I did in distributing the negative and how it makes the last two terms positive? Two negatives multiplied together make a positive.
