Perhaps Melvin’s problem should have been typed as
cos(0)2 + sin(0)2 = 1
At least that is identically true for any angle, not just 0.

Melvin are you sure you wrote the problem down correctly??? Unless this is some type of tricky math riddle, I think this problem is incoherent.
cos0 = 1
sin0 = 0
Therefore 2 = 1, which is impossible or 1 = 1/2
2cos0 + 2sin0 = 1 =
2 + 0 = 1
2 ≠ 1
Or
2(cos0 + sin0) = 1
cos0 + sin0 = 1/2 =
1 + 0 = 1/2 =
1 ≠ 1/2
