Hello Tina!
To find the slope of a line between two points, you divide the change in the y-values by the change in the x-values. Sometimes teachers say "rise over run," or "difference in Y over difference in X," and even "delta Y over delta X." They all mean the same thing. There are many formulas for slope, but I prefer to use this formula: m = (Y2-Y1) / (X2-X1)
In this formula, (X2 , Y2) and (X1 , Y1) are the coordinates of two points.
m = (Y2-Y1) / (X2-X1)
m = (3 - (-2)) / (-1 - 4)
m = 5/-5
m= -1
Hope this helps!
