Hi there,
Given X:Y is 5:3 and X+ Y =56 (if this is you put on he screen) then:
From first statement::
X/Y = 5/3. Thus X - Y x(5 /3)
Inserting X in the second statement:
X + Y = 56 then becomes {Y x (5/3) +Y} = 56
Adding all the Y's we have: (1+ 5/3) x Y = 56 or
8/5 x Y = 56
Thus Y = 56 x (5/8). And knowing that 56 = 7 x 8.
This results in Y = (7x8) x 5/8 = 35
Then: X = 56 - Y = 21
