The general form of a quadratic equation:

y = ax² + bx + c

The constant c is the y-intercept with the y-axis.

Hence, c = 8.

Solution 2:

When the 2nd-order polynomial crosses the y-axis, x = 0.

Then,

y = (0)² + 6(0) + 8 = 8

The y-intercept, y(x = 0) = 8.

One of the best "rules" to learn in math, is that whenever you want to find the y -intercept of ANY function, you simply put a 0 in for the x. Why do I know that? Because ... let's list a few points that are on the y axis (therefore are y -intercepts)

(0, 5)

(0, -2)

(0, 18)

(0, -20)

In all of these y intercepts, the x is 0.

So if you are trying to find the y -intercept, just set your x = 0.

y = (0)² + 2 (0) +8

y = 8

There's your y intercept (0, 8)
