We are dealing with a rectangle and we know its perimeter. The formula for a rectangle's perimeter is:
2W + 2L where W is our width and L is our length.
Now, we know that the length (L) of our rectangle is 2 yards longer than our width (W). In other words, if we add 2 to our W we get our length:
L = 2 + W
We can substitute this in for our perimeter equation and solve:
2W + 2( 2 + W) = 64
2W + 4 + 2W = 64
4W + 4 = 64
-4 -4
4W = 60
/4 /4
W = 15
So our width is 15 yards. Adding 2 yards to this we find our length is 17 yards.
