Use the given equation 2x + y = - 5 to find the slope. Since parallel lines have equal slopes, it will be the slope of the required line.
2x + y = - 5 Write the slope- intercept form ( y = mx + b ) of the equation
y = -2x - 5 ; is the slope- intercept form of the equation
So the slope of both lines is -2
Using slope of -2 and y intercept of 2,
y = -2x + 2 ( slope - intercept form )
or 2x + y = 2 ( standard form )
is the equation of the required line
