the simplest thing to do is add 3, 4, and 5 to get 12

divide 12 into $60,000

$60,000/12=$5000

multiply 3 by $5000 to get $15,000

multiply 4 by $5000 to get $20,000

multiply 5 by $5000 to get $25,000

the sums of money add up to $60,000, and...

15/20/25 simplify to 3/4/5, or 3:4:5 (divide each number by 5)
