What is the point of the recursive formula in arithmetic sequences when you can simply use the explicit formula to find the nth term??

Like in recursive, you have to know the prev term (n-1). In explicit ones you can find the term without knowing the prev term! SO WHAT’S THE POINT OF RECURSIVE??
