Draw a diagram of a rectangle. You are given the length is equal to 2 plus 4 times the width (w). In order to solve for the perimeter, we need to add all four sides of the rectangle together.
W =width
4w+2 =length
w + w + 4w + 2 + 4w + 2 = 574 yards
Combine like terms: 10w + 4
Subtract 4 from both sides: 10w = 570
Divide both sides by 10: w=57
Substitute 57 in for w to get your answers.
Width = 57 yards; Length = 232 yards
