Patrick is building a rectangular fence which has a permit we of 184 feet. The length of the fence is 2 feet less than triple the width. Determine the dimensions of the fence

Answer 1

Length = 68.5 feet

Width = 23.5 feet

Perimeter of a Rectangle is 2(Length) + 2(Width)

P= 2L + 2W

P = 184

L = 3W - 2

184 = 2(3W - 2) + 2W

Divide both sides of the equation by 2

92 = 3W -2 + W

Combine like terms

92 = 4W - 2

Add 2 to both sides of the equation

94 = 4W

Divide both sides by 4

23.5 = W

3(23.5) - 2 = L

70.5 -2 = L

68.5 = L

Checking in the Perimeter Formula

2(68.5) + 2(23.5) = 184

137 + 47 = 184

184= 184
