So, if he comes put, says hello and leaves, that's $40, so y = 40. If he comes and works for 4 hours, that's still $40 plus 15(4) = $60 for s total of $100.

Since we don't know how many hours he's going to work, we write an expression for x hours. That's y = 40 + 15x.

y = 15x + 40
