What is the value of x if (x,3) is a solution to 3x+2y=9?
Recall that points are made up of x- and y- coordinates, respectively; ie (x, y). Given that, you can use the y-coordinate to re-write the two-variable equation in terms of one variable. Simply plug in the y-coordinate for y. Then, solve the equation normally for x. I demonstrated each step below; take a look!
3x+2(3)=9
3x+6=9
–6 –6
3x + 0 = 3
3x=3
x = 1. Done!
