I need help understanding this..

Write a slope-intercept equation for a line passing through the point (4,-3) that is parallel to line 4x+5y=7.

Then write a second equation for a line passing through the point (4,-3) that is perpendicular to line 4x+5y=7.

Put the given line in slope in slope-intercept form: y= (-4/5)x+(7/5)

The slope of the given line is -4/5

The parallel line is -4/5=(y+3)/(x-4).

The slope of the perpendicular line is 5/4.

You should now mimic what I did above to find the equation of the perpendicular line.

BTW, you may need to "massage" the answers into a particular form.
