How do i put this word problem into a linear equation to solve?

Question

At the movie theater, Child admission is $5.40 and adult admission id $9.20. On Thursday, three times as many adult tickets as child tickets were sold, for a total sales of $825.00. How many child tickets were sold that day?

You will need to do the messy arithmetic.

A=#of adult tickets and C=# kids tickets

A=3C and

5.4C + 9.2A=825 => 54C + 92A = 8250

Substitute

54C + 276C=8250

OK, you solve it from here!

Answer 2

$5.40C + $9.20A = $825

On Thursday, the ratio of adult and child tickets was 3A / 1C

$5.40 (3A) + $9.20 (A) = $825

$16.20 A + $9.20 A = $825

$25.40 A = $825

A = $825 / $25.40

A = 32.48 tickets

C = 3A

C = 97.5 tickets

C = 97 tickets
