Let X, X+1, X+2, X+3, and X+4 be the 5 consecutive integers.
Given: X + X+1 + X+2 + X+3 + X+4 = 140
This simplifies to 5X + 10 = 140
Subtract 10 from both sides: 5X + 10 - 10 = 140 - 10 to get 5X = 130
Divide both sides by 5 to get X, the smallest of the 5 consecutive numbers: 5X/5 = 130/5
X = 26
Check: 26+27+28+29+30 = 140
