The other two pieces are 3 feet and 5 feet longer than the equal-length pieces. Draw a diagram of this situation. Then write and solve and equation to find the lengths of the 5 pieces.

The first 3 pieces have length L and the other 2 are L+3 and L+5 respectively.

3L + L+3 + l+5 = 45

5L + 8 = 45
