If -4<x<5 and 0.25<y<4 then a <(x/y) <b

What is a + b ?

since y is positive, there is no need to switch the inequality signs upon dividing...

-4 / 0.25 = -16

5 / 0.25 = 20

-4/4 = -1

5/5 = 1/.25

So a =-16 < x/y < 20=b

a+b = -16+20 = 4
