Mr. Al Jabra made a certain trip in 3 hours, while the return trip took 3.5 hours. If his speed going was 5 mph more than his speed returning, how many miles was the round trip?

Distance = (Rate)(Time),

Let x = speed on return trip. Then, speed going = x+5

Since the distances each way are the same, we have:

3(x+5) = 3.5x

3x + 15 = 3.5x

0.5x = 15

x = 30 mph

One way distance = 3.5(30) = 105

Round trip distance = 2(105) = 210 miles
