You are trying to solve this system of linear equations? Here is one way to do it.
(A) 7x - y = 7
(B) x + 2y = 6
Multiply equation A by 2:
(A') 14x -2y = 14
Now add A' to equation B:
14x -2y + x + 2y = 14 + 6
15x = 20
x = 20/15 = 4/3
Now just plug in the value for x ... we'll use Equation B.
x + 2y = 6
4/3 + 2y = 6
2y = 6 - 4/3
2y = (18-4) / 3
2y = 14/3
y = 7/3
