In archaeology a 'deposit' can refer a number of things. There might be a ritual deposit at the foundation of a building during which a foundation 'ritual' or something may have occurred...This deposit could be a votive object, which could be any object deemed appropriate to offer a deity or the spirit of the deceased. Deposits surrounding a mummy would very likely include burial goods, perhaps a figurine to serve as a spirit guide of sorts. More or less, a deposit in archaeology refers to something placed there/buried on purpose for a specific reason, in the case of a mummy, at the time of burial.
