Pseudoephedrine is an extremely common OTC medication used for upper respiratory infection. It is classified as a decongestant, particularly in the mucus membranes in the nose and sinuses. As the sense of smell originates within the same area, it follows that you might experience unique smells. There are several possible explanations.
If you are chronically congested, pseudoephedrine may improve your sense of smell, so that you are now able to sense smells that you were not able to smell before. A second possibility is that along with the nasal congestion, you have a sinusitis, which is an infection of the nasal passages, and you may be smelling the infection itself, not a pleasant thought. A less common possibility is that pseudoephedrine is a central nervous system stimulant, and may stimulate olfactory nerves, altering your sense of smell.
These effects are generally benign and disappear within a few days. If you continue to have difficulty, you should seek professional medical advice.

Have COVID and they gave me a "sudafed". Well it's a sweet almost spicy smell. Very strange sensation with the pill. It's too much and it's not stopping my cough. Just making me extremely strange. (r).01/17/23
