This is a great question. When you try and visualize any organic molecule with multiple carbon to carbon chains (C-C) with various molecules bonded to those carbon molecules, there are multiple orientations that can be formed. These various orientations are called conformers or conformational isomers. These isomers have the same bond to bond connectivity and must have the same molecular formula. Another word for conformers is rotational isomers because the functional groups are rotated around the center sigma bond.
