The order of operations is PEMDAS:
- P = operations within parentheses
- E = exponents
- MD = multiplication and division, left to right
- AS = addition and subtraction, left to right
Radicals are fractional exponents: e.g. √x = x1/2. Therefore they occur with the E, exponents.
