x + y = 32 because the numbers add up to be 32
x = 3y + 8 because one number is 8 more than 3 times the other
from there I would plug in the second equation into the first one in order to solve for the value of “y”
3y + 8 + y = 32
4y = 24
y = 6, meaning that
x = 3(6) + 8 = 18 + 8 = 26
so the two numbers that meet this criteria are 6 and 26
