Perpendicular lines have opposite, reciprocal slopes, so the slope of our new line will be -3.

We can do this two ways, by solving for b, or by using the formula.

y = mx + b

-3 = -3(2) + b

-3 = -6 + b

b = 3

y = -3x + 3

y - y₁ = m(x - x₁)

y - (-3) = -3(x - 2)

y + 3 = -3x + 6

y = -3x + 3
