Farmer James produce stand sells 24oz bags of mixed nuts that contain 30% peanuts.

Farmer James produce stand sells 24oz bags of mixed nuts that contain 30% peanuts. To make his product he combines Brand A mixed nuts which contains 50% peanuts and Brand B mixed nuts which contain 20% peanuts. How much of each does he need to use?

X + Y = 24


0.5X + 0.2Y = 0.3 * 24 = 7.2


0.5X + 0.2 ( 24 - x) = 7.2


0.5x + 4.8 - 0.2x = 7.2


0.3x = 2.4


x = 8


y = 16

Can you provide a more indepth explaination as to how you arrived to x= 8 and y= 16? Why do you constantly 7.2 after each equation because when I checked it I get a different answer compared to yours. How does 0.5X + 0.2Y = 0.3 * 24 = 7.2? The same question goes for: 0.5X + 0.2 ( 24 - x) = 7.2 0.5x + 4.8 - 0.2x = 7.2 0.3x = 2.4 x = 8 y = 16 I need to understand what is actually going on. I can't seem to comprehend what is written in this particular format unless you mention step by step how you arrived to your conclusion. Thank you
