Average Rate of Change = AROC = [ f(x2) - f(x1)] / (x2 - x1)
delta x = change in x = x2 - x1 = 2 - (-1) = 2 + +1 = 3

f(2) = 9/2; f(-1) = -3/2 AROC = (9/2 - -3/2)/3 = 12/2 over 3 = 6 /3 = 2 <--- YES !!!
or is it 1+ 4x/2 = 1+2x ???
