All piano players playing pop eventually have to know how to do “stride” a development of the early blues players. You can google it or listen to early blues guys or even jazz guys like Fats Walker , Hoagie Charmichael etc. Current players like Dr John or Randy Newman. This is a gotta know as a pianist. To each song however you should pay attention to what happens in the recording. There are riffs and “hooks”. Ex: piano man by Billy Joel. There’s a wealth of accompaniment styles in that one song. Personally I think of my chords as horns, doing horn riffs that I have heard or taken from jazz arrangements or som rhythmic patterns from the original recording or outta my own brain even!
