Yes they do, but the main part of the work is done in the field finding interesting items from sites. The archaeologists later take everything they can back to the lab and uncover more information with details not available in the field due to time constraints. Finally, papers are written and published in scientific journals. Last step is to display the artifacts, pictures and a prepared narrative to guide the curious visitor through the museum. Many times, only selected pieces are displayed in a collection at a time, which can be rotated over time with other pieces from the collection archived in the lab. It is highly rewarding to discover, analyze, narrate and display the results of your fieldwork. Fun activity if you can get it
