Hi Leah--
First, stack them up like one big fat subtraction problem, and subtract:
Y - 3x = -4
- Y + x = 0
_________________
-4x = -4
If -4x = -4, x must be ... 1
Now that you know x = 1, plug it into either of the original equations to find y. (If you get y = -1, you are right!)
