Hi, I'm Abigail, I'm an RN and am almost done with my MSN-FNP
I'll start by saying that I'm not your doctor and I think this is a good question to ask him/her at your next visit. The answer really depends on why you are taking the metformin. For instance, if you are using metformin to improve chances of conception (often used by women with PCOS as a fertility aid), then it may not be a great mix because metformin can lower your cortisol levels and cortisol can raise your blood sugar. If you're taking the metformin for its primary purpose (type II diabetes mellitus), then it could be a good combination for you. This is where it comes down to risk vs benefit analysis with your doctor or nurse practitioner because they know you and they know your personal history.
