The best graph is a straight line with y intercept of 2 and slope of 4. The slope intercept form of a linear equation is y=mx+b where m is the slope and b is the y intercept. Here m=4 and b=2. The slope is "rise over run." "Run" to the right one unit, and the line is at a point 4 units higher. Another way to visualize the linear graph is find the x intercept. The line intersects the x axis when y=0 Take the equation y=4x+2 and make y=0, then 0=4x+2. Solve for x. 4x=-2 and x=-2/4=-1/2 x=-1/2 is the x intercept (-1/2,0) is the point on the x axis where the line crosses and (0,2) is the point on the y axis where the line crosses, or intersects. Connect those two points with a straight edge, and extend it in both directions, forever. Start at the x-intercept, (-1/2,0) and run to the right 1/2 unit, then the slope of 4 means a rise of half of 4 or 2, giving the point (0,2), the y intercept. Another way to get to this graph is by shifts and rotations. Start with y=x, which is just a diagonal line through the origin, at 45 degrees, or with slope = 1. Rotate the line so it has slope = 4, making it more vertical, which is an angle with the x axis closer to 76 degrees. Then shift the line up by 2, so the line intersects the y axis at (0,2).
