the product of 2 positive consecutive intergers is 5 more than their sum, what are the intergers

thank you for your help, but i am still completly lost and have no idea how you came to this or even what the answer is even while looking at it.

Let's see if I can clarify.   Let's attack this in steps.  I don't know what the two numbers are so, temporarily I'll give them a label so I can talk about them.  
 
I use the letter n to represent the value of on of the numbers.   I don't know what the value is yet, but what it is, the one has  to have a value that's one more, or one less, because that's what it means to be consecutive.
 
Does this make any sense?

I screwed up the typing in the second paragraph.  What I meant to say is ....I don't know what the values is yet, but whatever it is, the value of the other number has to be one more or one less because that's what it means to be consecutive.
