briana and her sister both want the same bike. briana needs $73 more before she can afford it, molly needs $65 more. if they combine their money they have just enough to buy one bike to share. what is the cost of the bike?

B = amount briana has

M = amount Molly has

 

X = cost of the bike

 

X = B + M

 

X = B + 73

 

X = M + 65

 

 

replace x by B + M

 

B + M = B + 73

 

M = 73

 

X = M + 65

 

X = 73 + 65

 

X = 138   (cost of the bike
