What is the X method?

6*(-4) = -24

-4 + 6 = 2

Is this the X method?

xy = -24

x + y = 2

So y = 2 - x

Substituting

x(2 -x) = -24

2x -x² = -24

Subtract the x terms on both sides of the equation

0 = -24 - 2x + x²

0 = x² - 2x - 24

0 = (x - 6)(x + 4)

x = 6 and x = -4
