The term “chromatic” actually comes from ancient Greek music theory, which contemplated three musical modes: diatonic, chromatic and enharmonic, each one of them having a peculiar succession between tones and semitones (and quarter tones in the enharmonic) inside an interval of perfect fourth. The chromatic mode had as its characteristic interval succession: minor third + three consecutive semitones (e.g. A - Gb - F - E).
The adjective “blue” to the flatted notes in jazz scales (generally the 3d, 5th and 7th degrees of a major scale), instead, has to be referred to the ideas of “sadness” and “nostalgia”, connected with the African slaves music tradition which gave birth to the blues.
So there’s no connection between “chromatic” and “blue note” as for a color matter, even if both terms have probably a metaphorical connection with colors in their origin.
