Victoria is 119 miles away from Rachael. They are traveling towards each other. If Rachael travels 5 mph faster than Victoria and they meet after 7 hours, how fast was each traveling?

Let v be Victoria's speed. Rachel's speed is v+5.  Their closing rate(the speed they are approaching one another) is v + (v+5) = 2v + 5.

 

Distance = speed*time

 

119 miles = (2v+5)*(7 hours)

 

119 = 14v + 35
