Dimensions of a Triangle

Question

The perimeter of a triangle is 180 feet. The longest side of the triangle is 24 feet longer than the shortest side. The sum of the lengths of the two shorter sides is 14 feet more than the length of the longest side.Find the lengths of the sides of the triangle.

x + 24 = second side

x + 24 + 14 = sum of x and the third side

24 + 14 = length of third side

 

x + x + 24 + 38 = 180

2x + 62 = 180

2x = 118

x = 59

 

The one side is 59, the second side is 83, and the third side is 38.
